A man who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She explained the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
